Don’t be confused, I am speaking about the Samsung Gear S2 Classic smartwatch arrived with black finish and a genuinely matching leather band in 2015 at IFA keynote last year. Now that for the Gear S2 Classic, Samsung has introduced two new premium editions of that, one ecased in 18K Rose Gold option and the other in Platinum version. This news also adds another inclusion to the Gear S2 Classic and that is it will soon support iPhone running iOS.
Has Home and Back buttons to access notifications and runs apps very quickly, and by means it is IP67 certified wrist-wearable and dust-water resistant. It connects to the devices using Bluetooth 4.1 LE and supports NFC mobile payments.
Specification-wise, it has a 1.2-inch Circular Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360×360 pixels 302ppi density. It is powered by 1GHz Dual-Core Samsung’s Exynos 3250 Processor, paired with b512MB of RAM memory and includes 4GB of ROM. It runs on the company’s custom OS Tizen based wearable platform and got sensors such as Barometer, Accelerometer, Gryoscope, Heart Rate, and Ambient Light and holds 250mAh Li-ion battery.
New Rose Gold case with an Ivory Genuine Leather Band and Platinum cover with a Black Leather Band will be available globally from February this year. Pricing details are scarce at the far moment.
Update x1: The South Korean Electronics first Tizen-based smartwatch, Samsung Gear S2 works with Android 4.4 or higher versions of smartphones, which of course having 1.5GB of RAM. Android Wear supports iOS, though and the limitations to work with iPhone are fixed, which will likely be the case with Gear S2 iPhone support.
Samsung didn’t given any exact time frame about Gear S2 support for iPhone, but it can be expected by the end of this year.
