Torrentz: Online Piracy Search Engine ‘’ Shuts Down Permanently


After KickassTorrents, this time around the meta-search engine quitely shuts down, which is the oldest and popular platform founded in 2003 has been come to an end of serving piracy content online. Deactivated its search functions, and now the site reads “Torrentz will always love you. Firewall“. Furthermore, the owner of the website reportedly refused to comment as yet.

Reason behind permanent shut down of seems was mainly taken due to legal pressure on piracy websites, after the Kickass Torrents crackdown, another website in the same category, Solarmovie also gave up fearing legal action. Torrentz have been providing an option to allow people with copyright to certain content to file a cease and desist complain, and was a torrent hosting site expanded to become a meta-search engine.

Accused KickassTorents of distributing over $1 billion worth of illegally copied films, music and other content like software, books and games etc. Vaulin is alleged to own KockassTorrents or KAT, which in recent years has eclipsed Pirate bay and other to become the biggest source of pirated media worldwide.

Torrentz was used to index torrents from other popular torrent sites as The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, etc. The advantage here was that you got access to more trackers for a particular torrents downloads so that if few of them went down, you could still have the torrent working.

According to the criminal complaint “the website offers – a sophisticated and user-friendly environment in which its users are able to search for and locate content” which is protected by copyright. KAT, which distributes movies, video games, TV shows, music and other electronic media, is estimated to be the 69th most frequently visited website on the Internet web, as per the US Justice Department statement.

Now, with no news whether there was an arrest or a takedown in the case, it would be fair to wait for an official notice from the owners. For now, the homepage displays a welcome message reading “Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines.” Clicking on any other links, it redirects to a page displaying another message that reads “Torrentz will always love you. Firewall”.
