Xiaomi has officially unveiled its Mi 6 flagship smartphone in China today. The Xiaomi Mi 6 is said to be available in two variants; Silver Edition with reflective Stainless Steel and Ceramic with 18k gold finish. Here are the full details and everything we know so far.
The company behind much lesser priced smartphones, Xiaomi taste immediate success with the premium experience when compared to incumbent players. It had larger than-achievable targets. With the Mi 6 launch help Xiaomi regain its slumping shares. But unfortunately lost Huga Barra on its way, nevertheless, Xiaomi Mi 6 being the first flagship smartphone after his exit, also serves as an important case study for analysts to gauge how much of a value Barra’s presence brought to the company.
With the latest smartphone, Mi 6, Xiaomi not only aims to reach the target in similar level of performance consumers expect out of a high-end premium device. Newly announced Mi 6 smartphone will be going on sale in different color choices; Blue, Black, and Silver.
In terms of specifications, Xiaomi Mi 6 features a stainless steel border running on the edges with a curved glass body. With the reflective mirror-like finish and the curved panel, the Mi 6 looks a bit similar to the recently launched Honor 8. The placement of the dual camera setup is also same of what we have seen on the Honor 8. Professionally, the Mi 6 features a home button on the front panel that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner and is said to be ‘non-porous’. This essentially makes the structure of the Home button more durable and resistant.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 also opts out of the standard 3.5mm audio headphone jack for a USB Type-C port for charging, data transfer, as well as music. Speaking of audio, the new Mi 6 smartphone comes with an integrated dual-speakers that indeed help in getting a stereo sound effects. In terms of physical buttons, the volume rockers and power button are placed on the right side while the left frame features the SIM tray. While Xiaomi says that not only is the smartphone splash-resistant, but also the SIM tray is sealed to protect internal components from damage.
It appears that the Xiaomi phone company is finally trying to catch up with the industry trend where durability, along with design aesthetics, have taken precedence. With somewhat stronger focus on its 3D glass design, the company has put equal emphasis on the 5.15-inch FHD display.
As aforementioned, the Mi 6 has a stainless steel frame with 3D curved glass on four sides, also embedded a speaker into the earpiece and the other on the bottom. It has an under-glass ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that can be used for Alipay and WeChat payments, infrared sensor on top.
The Mi 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC. More importantly, the dual camera modules at the back of the smartphone is of 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with 4-axis OIS+ 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Same setup used on the Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, but not the 7 Plus have this, the Mi 6 also comes with a dedicated Portrait Mode, which tends in clicking photos with blurred background. For selfie fans, there’s an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
The rear dual camera sensor on the Mi 6 also supports 4K video recording. The smartphone comes running Android Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI skin on top.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 comes in Bright Blue, Bright Black and White colors and also comes in Silver Edition with reflective mirror finish Stainless steel frame along with a Ceramic version with 18k gold finish around the camera.
