Xiaomi has made its Mi 6 flagship smartphone official at its Beijing event today. The much-anticipated Xiaomi Mi 6 smartphone has finally been launched as expected, in China. Here’s everything you need to know.
Rumors about the dual-lens rear camera setup at the Mi6 back becomes true, while the flagship smartphone packs the latest octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset clocked at 2.45GHz processor coupled with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 540 GPU. The Founder and CEO of Xiaomi at the event claimed that the Mi6 smartphone with SD835 has better graphics performance compared to the Apple’s iPhone 7 as the handset was able to beat the latest Galaxy S8 in benchmark results such as AnTuTu.
The Mi 6 is encased in four-sided curved 3D glass, giving it more rounded corners. The display is of 5.15-inch and is a splash-proof one. There are two material options for the body – a curved 3D glass body and a “Silver Edition” stainless steel body. The Mi 6 display is said have reduced glare to reduce eye-strain. At the back is a dual-camera setup — 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with 4-axis OIS + 12-megapixel telephoto lens. The Mi 6 also comes with a dedicated Portrait Mode, which aids in clicking photos with blurred background. For selfie lovers, there’s an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera on Mi6 also supports 4K video recording. The camera can do 2X optical zoom without losing quality and 10X digital zoom. There is also four-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) to help take steady shots and videos.
The four-sided glass feature on the Xiaomi Mi 6 looks premium and adds overall appeal to the handset. The Xiaomi phone’s sides are made from stainless steel which offer high-gloss outline. With the introduced, Jun stressed that the new Mi6 has been “precisely crafted like a watch.” Suggesting that the dual camera at the back has been “seamlessly integrated”. The fingerprint scanner on the Mi6 is now placed under-glass at the front. The Mi 6 is resistant to wear and tear, and claimed it’s “splash proof”.
At the launch event, Xiaomi also unveiled a Silver Edition of the Mi 6 – will sport four-sided 3D curves and an ultra reflective mirror finish. While the Silver Edition will exclude a totally different feel from the blue version you’ve seen. In terms of physical buttons, the volume rockers and power button are placed on the right side while the left features the SIM tray
Connectivity options, the Xiaomi Mi 6 supports 4G+ networks with download speed of up to 600Mbps and up to 100Mbps upload speed. The battery package you will get inside the Mi6 is of 3350mAh capacity, and for the first time, Xiaomi has integrated dual-speakers on the Mi handset. The Mi6 sports front firing dual speakers that help in getting a stereo sound effect.
Other specifications includes NFC and the handset is compatible with the company’s Mi Pay NFC-based mobile payments service. Also confirmed that the Mi6 will come with a new MIUI optimizations which enables the smartphone to last up to a full day. Custom MIUI ROMs now restricts applications from starting up, freezes background apps, and also comes with better battery saving mode with support for Quick Charge 4.0. On the software front and the phone runs Android Nougat out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi Mi 6 Price: 6GB + 64GB at 2499 yuan (US$ 360 / Rs 23,436) – 6GB + 128GB at 2899 yuan (US$ 421 / Rs. 27,190 approx.) – 6GB + 128GB Ceramic Edition and 18K gold finish around the camera costs 2999 yuan (US$ 435 / Rs. 28,100 approx.).
