Xiaomi is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturer in China, though it presents its devices with relative good specs and competitive prices, but the brand has been growing in popularity outside the country as well. Since, we’ve been listing rumors of its newest flagship, the Mi6, for a quite some time now. Expected to be released in this month, according to a recent string of posts on Xiaomi’s official page on Chinese social networking site Weibo, suggests the same device will be unveiled on April 11.
Xiaomi has been publishing daily posts dedicated to each of its Mi flagships on its Weibo page, starting April 6 till today. It has posted the last of them, the one for the Mi 5. Well, this isn’t an outright confirmation that the Mi 6 will be introduced on the given date, though timing is weirdly coincidental with a press conference that will be held on the day. Moreover, Xiaomi has apparently sent a WeChat message to its fans saying they should expect something at noon, further confirming there is a big reveal coming up. It is something like leaky as the Samsung Galaxy S8, we actually know a lot more about the upcoming Xiaomi flagship, the Mi6. It’s processor will most likely be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, also rumors pointed at SD821 version. The rear camera of the device is said to be a 12MP dual-lens sensor with Sony IMX386 mockup, while the front will be a regular 8-megapixel selfie IMX268 shooter. Two options in the storage and memory was speculated; a 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and the other with a 6GB + 128GB space. No more dedicated microSD card slot is present, this time. While the screen you will find of 5.2-inch panel, but again, there’s no exact details on that whether the two versions use the same or not. One will have a QHD resolution, and the other will top at Full HD instead. The new Xiaomi phone is said to also run Android 7.1.1 and will reportedly be IP68-certified.
The press conference is scheduled for noon Hong Kong time on 11th April, which translates to midnight ET (Eastern Time). Update X1: Unfortunately, it wasn’t actually the Mi 6 unveiled today, but rather just its official launch date – April 19, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion. Now that we do have a couple of new titbits of information regarding Mi6, which claims not to have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the phone however, will be equipped with a Snapdragon 835 SoC only. Pricing details were also spotted on the Chinese social media site. Xiaomi Mi 6 will allegedly be launched with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage and 4GB RAM + 128GB variants – costs at CNY 2,199 (roughly Rs. 20,500), and CNY 2599 (approximately Rs. 24, 300) respectively. While the bigger variant, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus on the other hand also tipped to be offered in 6GB RAM + 64GB/128GB and 256GB variants, which reportedly will cost around CNY 2699 (Rs. 25,000 approx.), CNY 3,099 (Rs. 28,990) and CNY 3699 (Rs. 34,600) approximately.
