Nintendo Switch Fully-Focused To Add Netflix And Other Multimedia Streaming Platforms

According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the Nintendo Switch will indeed get Netflix and other multimedia platforms including Amazon streaming, Hulu and say some more pretty soon. Originally, Nintendo Switch has been launched without the support for Netflix or any alternative video streaming services, but now, the team behind the brand new Switch gaming console is in discussions with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to bring their streaming services to Switch…eventually.

The Nintendo Switch branding looks a lot like Netflix

There was been a question in mind on why Nintendo Switch doesn’t get support for Netflix as yet, but with the confirmation report, it would be the case why Nintendo did not push for Netflix or Hulu on Switch for launch, because he does not view those as things that would set the console apart. read: Nintendo Switch Review: You Can Use It As USB-C Power Bank To Charge 2016 MacBook Pro

In Fils-Aime words:

“We built the Nintendo Switch to be a world-class gaming device, meaning we want you first and foremost to play games on the system and have an incredibly fun experience,” he said. “We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon–things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators.”

He added: “What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.

Although Nintendo confirmed before the launch of Switch that there would be no streaming services available out of the gate, rather they could come at a later date. Additionally, the Switch does not even have a web browser, though, like the streaming apps, this feature might be added over time.

Prior to the Switch launch it was actually given the fact that it won’t support any video-streaming apps. “All of our efforts have gone toward making the Nintendo Switch system an amazing dedicated video game platform,” the company says, instead the functionality is “being considered for a future update”.

Another point to be noted and that is the Switch doesn’t even work with any Wii or Wii U controllers right away, but “support for certain controllers may be considered” in the future. Now that it seems like Nintendo is ‘taking to’ companies about supporting the Switch. Less than a week after the release of the console, now it has been considered on time. While he’s right that Netflix isn’t differentiator for a tablet like the Switch, it does put it into the dubious distinction of being one of the only pieces of elecronics you own that doesn’t have Netflix on it.

In the previous review of the Nintendo Switch gaming console, we wrote, “There’s no media player or web browser, let alone any streaming platforms such as Netflix or Hulu. Let’s take a moment for that one. The 3DS has Netflix.

It’s fair to say that the Switch is coming out hot, with major online functionality delayed until summer or fall, with only one major launch title which, itself, was originally slated for – and still appears on – the company’s previous console. Consumers on the other part planning to take advantage of the console in order to play excellent games like ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’.

In turn, consumers remain confused on major components for the platform, right up until launch. But now that it’s in people’s hands, it’s good to see Nintendo going on the record about its plans to support the console. With early sales numbers looking extremely promising, it’s time now for Nintendo to finish what it’s started and streaming video services on a tablet device is an obvious place to start.

Update X1: The Switch is Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever in the history of America and Europe, though Nintendo has yet to share any specific sales figures for it. Nintendo Switch will get Netflix and Hulu eventually later on.
