Pebble Time Smartwatch With Color Display Is Now Live On Kickstarter

Priced at $159, Pebble Time available to buy as a Kickstarter project, exceeding all the expectations. Pebble after its succeeding with its first Pebble smartwatch, introuduced in 2012 now launched its Color e-Paper Pebble Time smartwatch, exclusive on Kickstarter.

Many larger compititors have brought forth their own smartwatch efforts against Pebble, since the company has doggedly stuck to its task and remained fairly relevant. Given its over $10 million Kickstarter roots, it’s fitting that the latest model, should also begin its life on the crowd-funding site. And the latest creation is definitely on the same page.

The newer project comes with a bunch of new features including – finally – a color display, those interested can snap up the wearable early and with a slimmer design and a new software, it gonna equipped with a microphone that lets you send voice replies for notification on Android apps, including SMS Hangouts, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp calling and hundreds more.

The colorful e-paper display of the Pebble Time is easily the most eye-catching feature, thoiugh it’s not only the element worth talking about. But the entire user interface has been overhauld, offering a ‘timeline’ UI that touts a more fludic experience, while the inclusion of a microphone is also materialized as a major step in the right direction.

It has a curved design which fits in comfortably on your wrist. Pebble Time is 9.5mm thick, making it 20% thinner than its predecessor. The two major gripes with the Pebble have been the lack of a mic and touch-screen, but the latter still eludes the Pebble Time, the fact that its a full color offering does, in some ways, make up for it.

The Pebble Time got smart accessory port, enabling hardware developers to create sensors and smart straps that connect directly to the smartwatch. Retaining the foyr physical buttons from the first two watches, it has integrated with new timeline interface that lists notifications, news, reminders and event in chronological order instaed of being trapped inside seperate applications.

Battery life is still 7 days, which is impressive in thinner concept, and early bird pricing ranges between $159 and $179 in Kickstarter website. Once it launches to the retail market, it’ll see the cost $199 in May, so it still got decent savings. Expected to start shipping in May 2015.

Notably, the Pebble Time features an always-on, backlit e-paper display both for improved sunlight legibility and power efficiency and has a water-resistant chassis. Also come with full backwards compatibility, over 6,500 apps will be able to run on the new hardware out of the box. Customizations part goes with a standard 22mm watch band, so the sky is the limit.

The Pebble Time smartwatch’ frame will initially be available in Black, Red and White along with a matching silicone band. Voice typing is also quite present with initial support for most major messengers. Support for Android 4.0+ as well as iOS 8 and up.

The new Pebble’s Kickstarter project is really going strong with the initial 500,000 goal already surpassed four times in an hour. Catch the bird as early as possible.

It’s to be seen how the Pebble sells by comparison with the Apple’s Wearable, supposidly be shipping in April. Starts at $349, and given the general hype and anticipation for its launch. Pebble Time devotees get their wrist computers before Apple Watch has the chance to tempt them astray.
