Samsung has although confirmed that it will be launching Galaxy S8 in early next year, but there are other speculations that it could delay the said date. Rumors by far being playing a big role here also suggests the company will go for a full OLED screen for its next-generation Galaxy S8 in 2017. Specifications for that have already surfaced onto the web, but officially not declined.
Now, another report emerged from The Investor, claiming that the company is hardly working on a full screen OLED display, should be for the Galaxy S8. Park Won-sang, an engineer at the display-making unit of Samsung says:
“Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio (a scale that measures space taken up by a display on the front part of a handset) reaches more than 90 percent next year.”
During the iMiD 2016 display exhibition in Seoul last week, he said the aforementioned sentence, meaning that the Galaxy S8 will feature 20% more screen to body ratio when compared to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with 72% and 76% display area. The principal engineer for Samsung Display Co., at his presentation has also shown off the concepts of a bezel-less Galaxy S7 Edge. Park said that Samsung Display will try and push this ratio to about 99% over the next few years which makes every corner of the upcoming device covered by the display panel, something like edge-to-edge OLED display.
The recently announced Xiaomi Mi MIX has a 6.4-inch FHD (2040x1080p) with a boosting 91.3% screen-to-body ratio and ceramic body. As per the previous rumors, Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to feature a 5.5-inch 4K display, compatible for VR support, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 or Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 10nm chipsets and packs a 6GB of RAM.
However, a Samsung Display researcher quoted in the report declined to confirm whether or not the Galaxy S8 is going to sport that display, rather mentioned that the company is working on the development of such panel. Also suggests that Samsung might have to remove the Home button permanently for the Galaxy S8’s full-screen display and should be the world’s first smartphone to feature optical fingerprint recognition technology.
Currently, Samsung or its team has not confirmed anything related to the upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone, but said to be coming in a slick design and improved camera. While the official Galaxy S8 launch date time frame is set for next year, just before MWC 2017 takes their curtains off in February.
