News has emerged regarding the Apple to release updated iPod touch 6 later this year. Since the iPod touch refresh hasn’t seen any love for quite a while now – two-and-a-half years, to be precise, and with the Apple Watch now at our door steps, the “iPhone without a phone part” has faded into the abyss. Rumors has it, though, that the iPod touch will be back with a bang, boasting a bumped processor, camera and other enhancements. The iPod touch in a similar fashion Apple sells it at a larger amounts and with four models with three different display sizes and price points, it will be a big competitor in the iPhone history versus any other iPod-like media playing gadgets in the world.
Now, the so-called iPod touch 6 would, as per the AppleInsider, offer internal improvements like a healthy 64-bit A7 chip, but would deviate from the fifth-generation iPod touch in terms of design. The report, citing a source familiar with the plans, claims that the refreshed portable media player will likely have a similar design as the current model released over 2-and-a-half years ago, and speculated that the next-generation iPod touch could flaunt a camera and process improvements.
Apple rumored to bring the new iPod touch model with a more of a refresh than a full-on upgrade. The iPod touch 5G with A5 already there, and A7 on the newer media player will be a big step, which would help top-end games and newer, more demanding apps to run smoothly. As far as the reports also suggests that the next iPod touch will offer more storage space, a better FaceTime camera, as what we have seen with the new iPhone and iPad, Touch ID support seems likely.
Apple has not refreshed the iPod touch since October 2012, which was last iterated to be the iPod touch 5 updated with an ultra-thin and colorful design, A5 processor and Lightning connector. Since then iPod media player sales have been declining for several years till now.
Additionally, its said that Apple would make sense for the new iPod touch to support Apple Pay, which would require locked down NFC capabilities and a new fingerprint sensor. With Beats-related features could also be in store following.
If the latest report is to be believes and proves to be accurate, then, Apple may announce its next-gen iPod touch during its iPhone event in September or iPad event in October 2015.
