Samsung Galaxy S8 With Bixby Voice Assistant Will Do Visual Searches, Text Recognition And More

Samsung’s ‘Bixby’ assistant on Galaxy S8 smartphone might be able to use the camera for visual search and get text recognition abilities and so on. If we consider the previous reports that slated Samsung Galaxy S8 will be coming with AI powered smart virtual assistant, then, Bixby is that. Now, we got some more information regarding visual features of Bixby. Here’s everything we know so far.

Samsung is very much effortlessly working on its next-generation flagship smartphone, should be the Galaxy S8, and the more interesting additions is the company’s own AI assistant, currently known as ‘Bixby’. According to an exclusive report from SamMobile, Bixby is going to be able to use the S8’s camera for visual search and text recognition as well.

For unknown ones, Bixby is the result of Samsung’s recent acquisition of Viv, formally known for its work in helping to create Siri. On it’s own, Viv’s software is a bit different by itself having strong ties to third-party services and apps which Samsung will apparently leverage to fully control all of the native apps installed on its Galaxy S8.

Tipped that Bixby will be integrated inside Galaxy S8’s camera button, which let users activate to do a visual search on things the camera is currently pointed at. Bixby will analyze the image, identify the objects and even text. Optical Character Recognition will help process any text that is seen by the camera.

More interesting, though, is that Bixby on the Galaxy S8 will be able to leverage the camera to identify things in the real world. With that said, Samsung will add a Bixby button into the stock camera app on the S8, Furthermore, the assistant will also be able to use camera to recognize text, but it’s unclear exactly what it will use that data for. Familiar, isn’t it?

This is a very similar functionality to what we saw in Google Goggles which could recognize objects and show relevant information. Since that same functionality has been absorbed by Google Now which you can current use.

Samsung Bixby Is Making Into Samsung Galaxy S8

By the way, the Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is also said to introduce a revamped S Health app that will come equipped with WebMD. And Bixby on Galaxy S8 smart voice assistant will play a big role like how Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana does.

Whether or not all of this comes true, we have to wait for the accurate signal. As Samsung is rumored to debut the Galaxy S8 sometime in April. Stay tuned.
