We are edging closer to an official announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 ahead of this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). But what we are hearing about is the price for Galaxy S9 as predictions claim somewhat frustrating. As we are continuing to learn more about the unannounced device, its specification, and today, it’s purported price-tag.
With an earlier report pertaining the expected rise in price, TechRadar is now citing an unnamed source suggesting that UK-based consumers can expect to pay at least £100 more for the Galaxy S9 than the S8.
Corroborating an earlier report, which has already been witness to report which suggested that Samsung would look forward in increasing the price of this year’s Galaxy flagship, in order to compete with the likes and demand iPhone X sales record shown. Where the Korean market is concerned, this latest report is also suggesting that new information confirms that the Galaxy S9 will carry a £100 per handset premium over last year’s Galaxy S8, which is a fairly significant rise.
According to the source, who is well-placed within a retailer who sells mobile devices, Samsung will hit the UK market with the entry-level S9 priced at £789. The same S8 variant has been sold for $689 last year. In the U.S., the price for the Galaxy S9 will differ and could translate to $140 more.
You can expect the S9 to cost £100 more than the Galaxy S8 when it was released last year. The truth is that last year’s massively inflated smartphone prices on handsets like the S8, Note 8 and iPhone X have shown that there are plenty of people out there willing to pay these higher prices.
In fact, Apple has already proven that consumers are willing to pay a premium amount for what is perceived to be a cutting-edge, premium smartphone, as evidenced by the global success of iPhone X and its entry-level $999.99 price-point. Samsung is also looking to achieve the target which it believes that its new Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be worthy enough to the significant price hike, which would still put in below the cost of what Apple is charging for iPhone X.
Yes, you read it right, if Galaxy S9 does start at £789 in the UK, we, you can assume that the larger S9+ variant will set consumers back approximately £879.
