Samsung announced that it will release another Tizen 3.0-powered smartphone for emerging markets like India. It’s the fourth such device will launch in India later this month. Samsung Z4, the company’s latest entry in the Z line is a budget aimed at developing markets, with the low-end specs to match. Here are the details.
Samsung Z4, the smartphone will be launched in select markets across the world, with India first in May, and then make its way to other markets. It’s unikely we’ll see the Z4 launch in the US or Europe – at least officially.
After the user manual surfaced recently, the Samsung Z4 reveals its terms of hardware keys, including a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a lightly-curved 4.5-inch “2.5 D” WVGA screen and 5-megapixel camera. Rather, Samsung is pitching it to “first time smartphone users” who want a simple device and LTE connectivity.
The most interesting aspect about the new phone is its camera department. The Samsung Z4 comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash support and on the front, a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash support. The Korean company claims that both front and back camera setup on Samsung Z4 are “optimized for social media” and offers features aimed on convenience and creativity. Better than that, the flash module also appears to be shaped similar to the Galaxy J2 2016’s Smart Glow notification system.
With endless apps, regular security updates and more overall desirability, Samsung doesn’t stick with Android, though, it’s surprisingly popular in India, for one thing. Samsung promises Tizen-based smartphones aren’t dead with the launch of Z4, as is clearly dreaming of it being a successful smartphone OS, which is used to good effect in its appliances, TVs and Gear smartwatches (Tizen reportedly has a greater share of the wearables market than Google’s Android Wear). Reason, Samsung likely wants to keep it on life support as both fallback and leverage against Google, in case their better relationship sours.
The Samsung Z4 will be made available in both singe and dual-SIM variants depending on which markets it launches. It sports a WVGA (480×800) display resolution with 2.5D curved glass on top, is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Samsung yet to detail the internal storage offered by the device, but mentioned is that it includes 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, GPS, and GLONASS.
“Using different combinations of physical buttons or swiping the screen, users can create shortcuts to launch convenient features including Quick Talk, Quick Torch, Quick Launch of camera or Quick Switch without returning to the home screen,” said the company.
The smartphone houses a 2050mAh battery and measures 132.9×69.2×10.3mm and weighs 143 grams. Samsung will showcase Z4 smartphone at the Tizen Developer Conference in San Fransisco, California from May 16 to 17 2017.
The Samsung Z4 will be coming in Black, Gold, and Silver colors, depends on the markets, though. For now, the company has not detailed the Samsung Z4 price ot its exact launch date. But it should run less than $100.
“The Samsung Z4 brings a simplified mobile experience to first time smartphone users and represents our ongoing commitment to expanding the Tizen ecosystem,” Koh said. Quick Talk’s voice activated commands will allow you to launch a set of shortcuts localized by region, such as Alarm, Call, or Music.
