Samsung Gear VR already available and the company has another set of VR headset created for their lineup on phones. With today’s announcement of a partnership between Sennheiser and Samsung looking for more options in their futuristic creation. Both will merge together to create smart headset for Android phones. Here are the details.
According to Korea Harald, Sennheiser’s Andreas Sennheiser said “We are working with Samsung on the Ambeo smart headset to make it available for Android devices because a dominant layer of the smartphone market is Android-based phones“.
Speaking about the Three dimensional audio – otherwise known as binaural audio – belongs to recording sound as close as possible to the way your ears hear it. For those who are somewhat familiar with Sennheiser’s Ambeo platform, basically this uses 3D audio technology via a proprietary algorithm that eventually makes games and movies sound more realistic. Usually that means using big recording rigs configured to look like a human head, but Sennheiser wants to make the process pretty easier and simpler.
Remind you about its Ambeo Smart Surround earbuds, unveiled at this year’s CES which come with embedded microphones capable of recording 3D audio. The Smart Surrounds were announced as iPhone-only, but now the company is planning to release them to Android, too.
Sennheiser CEO has already announced the news at the IFA Global Press Conference in Portugal, said the company wanted to bring the platform to Google’s mobile OS for one very reason: “A dominant layer of the smartphone market is Android-based phones.” Partnering with Samsung, Sennheiser added, would give the project “credibility.”
Note that these upcoming won’t be VR headsets like the Gear VR, but if you’re after something that could help make your games or videos sound even better, then they could be worth checking out. There’s no official word as when will it be able to expect, but given the fact that the information regarding 3D headset was revealed at IFA, so we can apparent to see something at the event which will be kicking off in September.
Yes, it may seem a little odd that Sennheiser wants to team up with a company as big as Samsung just to bring one pair of specialized headphones to Android. For the unknown, Samsung also has its own headphone partnership with Harman, makers of the AKG earbuds bundled with the Galaxy S8. But, for Sennheiser, 3D audio is a “strategic focus” that the industry thinks will become more and more important with the rise of Virtual Reality. It advertises the Ambeo headphones as a perfect pairing for a 360-degree camera, also sells a super-pricey “Ambeo VR Mic.” Getting its platform as part of Android program will be essential if it wants to attract more customers.
