You can now download iOS 11.4 beta 5 IPSW links and OTA update for your iPhone or iPad. Here are the details on it.
just after a week since the fourth pre-release seed of iOS 11.4 has been released, Apple has officially continued the progress of its mobile operating system with the immediate release of fifth pre-release seed to developers. The release not only gets us one step closer to a final public release but also means that developers and public testers with a compatible iPhone or iPad can access the release right away.
It’s likely that this could be the final pre-release seed before Apple pushes iOS 11.4 into the hands of the public. With this year’s WWDC just around the corner, Apple will understandably be keen to push iOS 11.4 in the public’s hands prior to the unveiling of iOS 12 during the opening Worldwide Developers Conference in June. So, with that in mind, developers and testers, make sure that this update is installed and tested to its fullest.
As far as iOS 11.4 is concerned, the update introduces a new ClassKit framework for educational institutions, which supports new features and stability improvements which should hopefully make the platform a lot easier to use and interact with overall enhancements.
For regular users, the iOS 11.4 update adds features that were originally present in the iOS 11.3 beta but removed ahead of release. That includes support for Messages on iCloud, designed to store your iMessages in iCloud rather than on each individual device, allowing for improved syncing capabilities. Currently, incoming iMessages are sent to all devices where you’re signed in to your Apple ID, but there is no true cross-device syncing.
Messages on iCloud will allow you to loot all of your iMessages on a new device, and a message deleted on one device will remove it on all devices. Older messages and attachments are also stored in iCloud rather than on-device, saving valuable storage space.
Another feature you’ll find in the iOS 11.4 update is the inclusion of AirPlay 2, with the Apple TV once again available in the Home app. With AirPlay 2’s multi-room audio is now a possibility, as is the reimplementation of Apple TV in the Home app, which otherwise, was removed from the betas of iOS 11.3. AirPlay 2 includes a feature that lets you ask Siri on one device to play content on another AirPlay 2-enabled device.
However, there is no sign of support for HomePod stereo sound in the first iOS 11.4 beta, a long-promised feature, but the stereo sound didn’t work properly and that mention has been removed in the second beta. It’s not clear if it will return for the update’s release.
If you have been an ongoing part of Apple’s testing efforts, and want to continue, then the fifth iOS 11.4 beta is available to download right now on iPhone and iPad via Settings > General > Software Update.
