Google has made available for download Android 7.1.1 Nougat Developer Preview 2 for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Pixel C, Nexus Player and other compatible devices recently. Vodafone Australia has now confirmed that the final version 7.1.1 of Android Nougat update will be rolling out on December 6. Here are the details.
It appears Google Nexus owners will be blessed with bragging rights for running the latest and greatest Android mobile operating system with bleeding-edge AOSP builds. First devices and non-Nexus brand smartphones, Pixel and Pixel XL are the two new ones that launched Android 7.1 Nougat pre-installed.
Today, it was confirmed that the final version will eventually be seeded to the Huawei Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, Pixel C, followed by the predecessors, the Motorola Nexus 6, HTC Nexus 9 and Asus Nexus Player. Other eligible devices will soon follow the realm as well. Rumors there also pointing at Android One phones will start getting an OTA very soon.
What features can you expect from the roll out? Features such as support for Daydream VR, Apple’s 3D Touch Quick Actions-like feature called app shortcuts that works with swipe gestures, enhanced live wallpapers, and much more. There’s also the new Storage Manager and image plus GIF support for the AOSP keyboard, among other OEMs.
Notes that the update will be pushed out 5 p.m. AEST on Dec. 6, but the security patch will be released a day before, matching Google’s pattern of releasing security patches on a Monday.
