WhatsApp Enables A New Group Chat Settings Option, Here’s How It Works

WhatsApp group chats can be very useful which is perfect for organizing social events and much more. WhatsApp has today pushed out a new update to its mobile apps which brings in a feature to group chats that at first blush may not be a huge improvement but in the right setting it could be a big change.

Previously, everyone knows that groups can quickly descend into chaos as everyone starts, chatting with one another. As of the new update rolled out this past weekend, group chat owners can specify users who are able to post messages, making everyone else a recipient only. WhatsApp is improving its group chat feature with a new option that only lets admins share messages in chats.

With the introduction of a new option for group chats, WhatsApp lets only approved administrators send messages – perfect for functional group chats. This new setup means that it will be easier to ensure that important messages are not lost in a tidal wave of other messages.

WhatsApp quite rightly points out that this new change is aimed at group chats which often receive important announcements. And one that will make group chats more functional and appealing for certain use cases. Obviously, WhatsApp knows group chats are a big part of its appeal and has been slowly adding more features.

In fact, WhatsApp recently introduced group descriptions as well as anti-spam tools and a catch-up feature that shows users’ replies and mentions. All of this makes the Facebook-owned WhatsApp more impressive and attractive for the type of group organizing and group announcements feature that might have otherwise been done on Facebook itself.

It’s being vital when used by schools or community initiatives which need a way to have everyone in one place and then able to send them targeted messages. A better way, the recipients are unable to reply, preventing messages from being lost in the fray.

Said by WhatsApp team back in May that it was working to improve group messaging, including improved admin controls. It seems that now the work was done perfectly by rolling out a new option for group chats update.

Groups have been an important part of the WhatsApp experience, whether it’s family members connecting across the globe or childhood friends staying in touch over the years. There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organizing study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters.

To enable the setting, just open “Group Info” in a group chat, then go Group Settings > Send Messages and select “Only Admins.
