Xiaomi Introduces New MIUI 7 Custom ROM Based On Android 5.1 Lollipop

The new Xiaomi MIUI 7 announced alongside the new Redmi Note 2 / Prime. MIUI 7 is purely based on Android Lollipop version 5.1, which comes with several customized features that helps you transform your device easily into a workstatin or playstation.

The MIUI 7 version of ROM brings with it face detection mode in the Gallary app, that can recognize faces and sort images according to the poeple in it in the People tab. The new firmware is even able to identify and differentiate pets.


With best themes, MIUI 7 also has a handful of skins, including a pink ‘Godess’ them targeted at women and as usual you can download and install more from the Mi store, and that too all for free of cost. A new feature called Mi Roaming, which act as a virtual SIM on MIUI 7, for when you go out of your country, allowing users to purchase data packages from Xiaomi and later use them instead of getting a new SIM card for roaming purposes. Unfortunately, this feature is only available in China for now.

MIUI 7 can also set your videos for contacts, which lets you play when the person calls you. Finally, there’s also a Kid Mode, which evidently restricts what content kids can access on the MIUI 7 powered Redmi or Mi phone.


The Xiaomi MIUI download will be rolled out via OTA for  Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Redmi, and Redmi Note tomorrow in China. Xiaomi will be officially announcing MIUI 7 in India on August 19th. Stay tuned!
