How can we admit Xiaomi’s word on saying that its newly announced Mi Mix 2S has better features than Apple’s iPhone X. Here are the details.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is an Android-based smartphone, though it has been officially introduced as the successor to Mi Mix 2. When looking at its hardware components and other internals, the Mix 2S isn’t very different from last year’s Mix 2, but it does have a new camera, new processor, and the highly wanting wireless charging support.
The Xiaomi’s announcement of a new product launch happened just before Apple’s education-focused event, where it has introduced its new 9.7-inch iPad, named it iPad 6. The folks over at Xiaomi also have a new device to share, with the Mi Mix 2S announced in Shanghai.
The phone is claimed to not only have better feature additions and specifications that compete with iPhone X, but it also comes in an around half the price of Apple’s current flagship model.
To consider it from the front, the Mi Mix 2S looks almost identical to its predecessor model that was only announced a few months ago. Internally, there’s what you will find a 5.9-inch display with minimal bezels (while the bottom chin is a bit big for our liking) you could be forgiven for wondering which phone you are looking at here.
The Mi Mix 2S features a 5-megapixel camera in its bottom chin bezel, meaning that it just like the original, the Mi Mix 2S does not need to go the notch route that Apple’s iPhone X made famous of. While what to consider more is that the new phone from Xiaomi does gain Qi-capable wireless charging through, and around the back lives a fingerprint sensor and a new 12-megapixel dual camera system which makes use of a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens to allow for the portrait shots we have come accustomed to from such phones.
The new dual-camera system replaces the single module on the Mix 2 and also has moved it to the top left corner of the rear panel. The system is comnprised of two 12MP sensors, on behind a wide-angle lens, the other behind a telephoto lens. The Mi Mix 2S’s camera features dual-pixel autofocus, four-axis optical stabilization, and larger pixels than the ones found on the sensor used in the Mi Mix 2. It’s set behind an f/1.8 lens; the telephoto camera uses an f/2.4 lens and has smaller pixels.
On board, the phone uses what is now becoming a standard for Android phones in 2018 – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Alongside there is either 6GB or 8GB of memory depending on which model you will want to purchase. with the same 3400mAh battery, there’s still no headphone jack either, so that’s something to remember if you’re a big music fan.
On the software front, the new Mi Mix 2S is Xiaomi’s MIUI 9.5, on top runs Android 8.0 pre-installed out of the box and coming in 64, 128, or 256GB of storage capacities. Set to ship in black or silver, both Mi Mix 2S variants starting at 3.299 yuan (around USD $526) for the base model, and rising to 3,999 yuan (about $640 USD) for the best version that includes a wireless charging pad (It also supports Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3 wired charging through its USB-C port.) Users in China will be able to pick the phone up next week. For those waiting for it to ship anywhere other than Xiaomi’s existing established markets, you may be out of luck.
Xiaomi has said that it plans to launch phones in the US in the next year or so!
